Where it all began...
The Hair Chef started in a dorm room at Ohio University with a vision: to create natural hair solutions using everyday ingredients. In April 2020, that vision became official with the launch of The Hair Chef LLC. What started as kitchen experiments turned into a mission grounded in self-care, science, and sustainability.
The concept got bigger. The impact got deeper.
In 2022, as a participant in Urban Launch School through The U, we introduced our signature idea: “Build-A-Bear, but for Hair.” Since then, we’ve customized workshops at Arts Impact Middle School, led First Fridays in partnership with Get Cre8tive, collaborated with Zora’s House as a Leadership Fellow and WOCO summer vendor, and hosted porosity workshops with Huckleberry House. We’ve also facilitated hygiene workshops at A Cut Above the Rest Barbershop, turning classrooms and salons into spaces of nourishment and hair education.
Workshops, youth leadership, and cultural care—amplified.
From 2023 to 2025, The Hair Chef expanded across Columbus: we ran 5-week youth programs at Douglas Rec Center, and now we’re preparing new sessions at Woodward Park Rec Center—stay tuned! We taught youth entrepreneurship with GiveBackHack + Columbus City Schools Summer Experience, led a hands on gel creation with BOLD Girl Collective (formerly Brown Girls Mentoring), and uplifted teens through UpLift Her’s Youth Pavilion. By August 2025, we secured our shampoo and braiding license—and launched our next chapter: the Cultural Care App, a digital home for personalized, heritage-rooted natural hair care.
